What Is a Majlis?
A majlis is the dedicated reception and sitting room in an Emirati or wider Gulf home — the space where guests are received and families gather, built around shared seating rather than a sofa-and-TV layout.
Traditionally it's arranged in a continuous U-shape around a central rug, with low floor cushions facing inward and a brass coffee setting placed near the entrance. The same logic carries into modern villas, just raised onto a structured sofa frame instead of floor mattresses — which is the main difference between "traditional" and "modern" below.

Modern Majlis Sofa Sets
A modern majlis keeps the same U or L seating logic but raises it onto a structured sofa frame — deep, wide seats sized for sitting cross-legged or reclining, boxed or waterfall arms, and upholstery in linen, boucle, or performance fabric depending on how the room is used day to day.

Majlis Seating Layouts
Layout is usually the first decision, not the last — it sets how many guests the room comfortably holds and where conversation naturally happens. Three layouts come up most often:
U-Shaped
The most traditional formal majlis layout. Best for larger, dedicated reception rooms — typically seats 10 to 16+ guests facing a shared central space.
L-Shaped
An efficient fit for narrower rooms or a majlis that doubles as a family living space. Comfortably seats 6 to 10.
Facing Rows
Two long rows facing each other across the room — a formal, traditional reception layout, sized to your room's exact dimensions during the site visit.

Majlis Tables & Wood Detail
Low corner and centre tables are usually the only solid-wood pieces in a majlis, which is exactly why we treat them as a focal point — solid walnut with brass inlay along the edge, sized low enough to clear floor seating or sofa arms depending on the room. These come out of the same factory and joinery team that builds our full custom furniture range.

What's the difference between a traditional and a modern majlis?
A traditional majlis uses continuous floor-level seating along the wall, while a modern majlis raises the same U or L layout onto a structured sofa frame with deeper seats and upholstered fabric. Many UAE homes now combine both styles in a single room.
How many guests can a custom majlis seat?
It depends on layout and room size. A U-shaped majlis typically seats 10 to 16+ guests, an L-shaped layout suits 6 to 10, and a facing-rows arrangement is sized to your room's exact dimensions.
How long does a custom majlis take?
It depends on scope. A majlis furniture package is generally faster than a full room renovation; we confirm an exact schedule once materials are selected, the same process we use for full villa renovations, which typically run 8 to 12 weeks.
Can an existing majlis sofa be reupholstered instead of replaced?
Often, yes — if the underlying frame and foam are still in good condition, reupholstering in new fabric is usually faster and more cost-effective than a full rebuild.
